Unveiling the Struggle: Internet Instability, Freedom of Speech, and the Economic Fallout in Pakistan

In the midst of the modern era, where discussions about media freedom and public awareness abound, a stark contrast emerges – the public voice, rather than being liberated, finds itself under the control and censorship of authorities, the establishment, and the government. In Pakistan, the right to freedom of speech has metamorphosed into a formidable threat for the common man, as those who dare to speak up for their rights often face severe consequences. The prevalence of favoritism, endorsed by the authorities, has permeated throughout the country.

In their bid to silence the nation's voice, these authorities seem to have overlooked the realities of the modern world. In this cyber age, concealing and muting information is an implausible task. The ubiquity of internet access has transformed the globe into a global village, where everything is just a few clicks away. While this accessibility is beneficial, it also means that individuals are vulnerable to the vast cyber world.

Reputed organizations are esteemed for their accessibility to the public. They ensure reliable and secure internet connectivity to facilitate easy and swift access. For example, consider online banking portals that require a stable internet connection within a limited timeframe for secure transactions. If your internet is unstable, the transaction may be canceled or rejected due to security compliance conflicts.

In the pursuit of controlling freedom of speech, the government resorts to periodically shutting down the internet across the entire country. This not only serves their own interests but also restricts the public from accessing speeches and posts from opposition political parties on social media. In this political battleground, the government has inadvertently destabilized internet availability.

The repercussions of this internet instability directly impact IT Services Exports. During internet outages, foreign services hosted in Pakistan experience disruptions, leading to penalties for hosting companies and additional expenses for service arrangements during the downtime. Consequently, software exports and hosting services are migrating from Pakistan to other countries, primarily due to internet instability and increased taxation on exports, dealing a severe blow to the country's economy.

It is unfortunate that the leaders in the country seem to lack the literacy required to comprehend the significance of progress with compliance. While they speak of growth, their actions fall short of achieving any meaningful goals. The aspiration for 5G technology in the country is admirable, but achieving stability in internet services is a prerequisite for global giants like PayPal and Amazon to consider providing their services. What the nation truly needs are educated and visionary leaders who can steer the country towards genuine success and growth.
