Incompetence and Corruption: The Rise of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz

Today's blog is about the incompetence and corruption surrounding the new Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz. She has always aimed to achieve this seat of Chief Minister, but as she was not capable enough to earn this position legitimately, she opted to obtain it through unethical means. She is not even a graduate; she acquired her degree through her father's influence during his tenure as Prime Minister. She was an incapable student, lacking the caliber to pass graduation exams on her own. Consequently, she resorted to unethical methods to gain fame and aimed to become either the Chief Minister or Prime Minister.

Maryam Nawaz followed in the footsteps of her father, Nawaz Sharif, and her uncle, Shahbaz Sharif, making false promises to the nation in public speeches and announcing fake projects to garner public attention. She adopted unethical methods to defame the opposition. Since PMLN (Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz) was never capable of proving themselves as a better party than the opposition, they always opted to make personal attacks on individuals from opposition parties. They leaked fake audios and videos and made false claims about the families of opposition members. They appointed their own people to important positions to gain complete control over all departments and defense forces. To silence the opposition, they used armed forces to spread fear among opposition members, arresting and jailing those who were fearless enough to speak the truth.

This is how the ground was cleared for the newly appointed Chief Minister. Maryam Nawaz had a perfect opportunity to prove herself by implementing a few successful projects that could help the country's economy. However, due to her lack of capability, she opted to collect funds through corruption and fake projects.

As the country's economy is in dire straits, Pakistan is in need of a literate and visionary government that can work to bring the country out of its economic crisis. Despite the shortage of funds, the new PMLN government is still announcing infrastructure projects instead of revenue-generating initiatives. To improve the economy, the country needs to reduce imports and increase exports. However, the government still relies on borrowing loans to solve problems, which is pushing the country further into the darkness of inflation.

Let's discuss some of the unnecessary projects announced by Maryam Nawaz. The Chief Minister announced a Free WiFi Project for Lahore with an actual cost of 300 million in the books. The project was approved, and funds were allocated, but the project was never executed. The existing WiFi sites of Free Punjab WiFi were utilized to pretend as the new Lahore Free WiFi. The Safe City Punjab and PITB (Punjab Information Technology Board) collaborated to use the existing infrastructure for the new project. Thus, the allocated funds went into the pockets of government officials, including the Chief Minister. 

Then, the Chief Minister launched a project to make Lahore the best eco-friendly city. However, building roads in the city contradicts the idea of an eco-friendly environment. The government did not adopt any mechanism to plant trees against the number of roads being constructed. The city can never achieve an eco-friendly environment when the concrete and metal infrastructure produces more carbon and heat, contributing to global warming and resulting in hotter summers and extreme weather conditions.

Additionally, the announcement of the Nawaz Sharif IT City, spanning 853 acres and tax-free for the next 10 years, is another example. This project was funded and announced decades ago under the name of Knowledge Park. They are reannouncing projects for which they already received funds in previous tenures. They keep executing the same projects under different names and securing funds multiple times for the same initiative. The Knowledge Park had not progressed for a decade, and now they are claiming and showing its progress within two months. 

The nation should question the funds allocated for the Knowledge Park. Where did those funds go, and why is PMLN executing the same projects under a new name with new funds? PMLN knows well that this nation is not literate enough to question the progress of previous or new projects, so they continue to deceive the public. This is why PMLN never focuses on improving the education sector. If the nation were educated and visionary, it would be able to see through the fake projects and promises of the PMLN government.
