Pakistan in Shackles: The Cyber Prison Under PMLN's Governance

With a profound sense of responsibility and growing frustration, I voice my concerns about the dire state of our nation, witnessing the appalling state of our beloved Pakistan under the mismanagement of the current PMLN government. They have reduced our once-vibrant nation into a dystopian cyber prison, suppressing fundamental freedoms and throttling our economy with ill-conceived policies.

Freedom of Speech: A Thing of the Past

In this era of PMLN's rule, the very foundation of democracy—freedom of speech—has been shattered. The government's obsession with silencing dissent has led to a brutal crackdown on anyone daring to question their credibility or highlight their shortcomings. Social media, a platform meant for expression and dialogue, has become a battleground where citizens are targeted, traced, and arrested merely for expressing opinions.

The government has diverted critical resources from projects that could benefit the public, such as infrastructure and technological advancements, to constructing a vast network of firewalls. These are not for protecting the nation but for monitoring and censoring the voices of the people. With these actions, PMLN has effectively transformed Pakistan into a cyber prison, where even basic internet access is weaponized against its own citizens.

The Internet as a Weapon

In today's interconnected world, the internet is a basic necessity, essential for education, work, and daily life. However, in Pakistan, it has become a tool of oppression. The PMLN government routinely shuts down the internet, particularly during opposition protests, not only stifling dissent but also crippling professionals, remote workers, and hybrid employees who rely on stable internet connections for their livelihoods.

While telecommunications companies boast about testing 5G technology, the reality is that users struggle to achieve even 3G speeds on LTE networks. This degradation is not due to technological limitations but because of the deliberate filtering and control measures implemented by an incapable and visionless administration.

Economic Mismanagement and Corruption

The PMLN government’s economic policies are nothing short of disastrous. Instead of initiating projects to strengthen the economy or improve public infrastructure, they have focused on selling national assets to organizations with dubious connections. These actions serve only to benefit a select few, leaving the public to bear the brunt of a crumbling economy.

The lack of economic foresight is evident in the delayed rollout of the 5G network, a critical advancement that could have bolstered Pakistan's position in the global tech market. Instead, investments were funneled into monitoring tools aimed at controlling public opinion.

A Nation Held Hostage

The current regime has normalized the use of containers to block highways and routes, effectively paralyzing the nation whenever opposition voices rise. Public protests are met with force, and any attempt to document or broadcast these injustices is swiftly silenced through internet shutdowns and biased, paid journalism.

Government offices and organizations are filled with individuals chosen not for their merit but for their affiliations, creating a culture of incompetence and corruption. This lack of accountability and professionalism has led to the decay of essential services and the erosion of trust in public institutions.

The Way Forward

It is high time for citizens to demand accountability and push for governance that prioritizes the nation's welfare over personal agendas. Pakistan deserves leaders who respect democratic principles, uphold freedom of speech, and invest in projects that ensure a brighter future for all.
