Purana Pakistan : Reign of Terror on Citizens

The state has done nothing for me except issue an ID card, for which they even charged me. I have to pay for my own security, cleanliness, healthcare, and education. Nowadays, we also have to buy gas cylinders, solar power for electricity, and clean drinking water ourselves. So, what does the state collect taxes for? Our tax money is being squandered on the salaries of our so-called defenders, who instead of protecting us, pose a threat. The government uses these forces to intimidate the public, forcing us to accept every unjust decision and silencing any opposition. 

In a recent speech, Ata Tarrar of PMLN took the government's threats to a new low, declaring that they will block the ID cards of those who refuse to comply. This is nothing short of an outrageous abuse of power. The state, which should be serving the people, is instead bullying and coercing them into submission. They’ve done nothing for the people but exploit them. They extort money for basic necessities, force us to fend for our own security, and now they threaten our very identities.

This imposed government, led by PMLN and PPP, has never worked for the public good. They have a notorious history of corruption and money laundering. Their primary focus is to amass funds and transfer them to foreign accounts so they can flee the country whenever they're close to being caught. They are driving the country into darkness by lowering literacy rates, creating obstacles for bright students and skilled workers, and forcing them to leave the country for better opportunities. They are imposing heavy taxes on businesses and hiking electricity tariffs for industries, driving businesses to relocate to other countries. This government's catastrophic decisions will set our country back 20 years in terms of economic development. They have completely terrorized the general public with the Police and Army. Instead of feeling safe, people are now terrified of these defense forces.


A recent example of their incompetence and corruption is the kidnapping of a prominent Pakistani businessman, Zulfiqar Ahmed, owner of Next Cola and managing director of Paracha Textile Mills and Mezan Group, on July 23. His vehicle was intercepted by eight armed men in Karachi’s Mauripur area, who abducted him. Despite his family and company’s management submitting an application at the Kalri Police Station the same day, the police refused to register a complaint, forcing them to approach the Sindh High Court. The court ordered the police to lodge the case on Friday, which they only did reluctantly. Zulfiqar returned home in Lahore on Sunday, July 28. The situation worsened when two senior staff members from Cola Next were also abducted from Lahore and Kasur on Friday, according to Ahmed’s lawyer. The two staffers included Hassan Nawaz, deputy general manager of finance at Meezan Beverage, and Danial Afzal Khan, general manager at Meezan Beverage.

Next Cola has risen to prominence in the local market following the ban on Coca Cola and Pepsi. Its business has soared due to the high demand for alternatives. Next Cola successfully filled the gap, replacing Coke and Pepsi entirely. Given that Coke and Pepsi are Israeli products, they were banned in Pakistan, and Next Cola provided a local alternative, helping the public boycott these brands. The defense forces were well aware of the expected retaliation from the Israeli mafia following our firm stance against Israeli products. Our authorities should have protected the business owners contributing to Pakistan's economy. Instead, they are more preoccupied with political maneuvering and starting their own businesses with taxpayer money. Or the authorties itself abductes successful business owners for extortion?


To further suppress freedom of speech, the government has installed firewalls to monitor social media and threaten the public, oblivious to the resulting internet latency and slowdown. This illiterate government doesn’t care about the businesses affected by this slow internet. They act more like a terrorist mafia, using the authorities as their bodyguards to intimidate people and extort money.

This situation is intolerable. The government, entrenched in corruption and driven by self-interest, must be held accountable. This corrupt regime, intent on oppressing its citizens, must be confronted. We must unite to defend our rights, our identities, and the future of our country against this tyranny.
