Saving Pakistan’s Future: Ban Distractions, Empower the Youth

In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the unemployment rate has soared to over 50% by 2024. Inflation continues its relentless rise, strangling the hopes of millions. Meanwhile, the imposed government remains blind to the urgent needs of the citizens, offering no real initiatives that could provide the relief people so desperately seek. The frustration among the population is palpable, and in the pursuit of merely feeding their families, people are turning to desperate measures. Terrorism is on the rise, fueled by a society teetering on the brink of collapse.

Pakistan is standing at the edge of a precipice, dangerously close to being declared a defaulter nation. But what does the government do? Instead of adopting a clear vision for economic revival and development, it has shackled itself to foreign loans. There is no real effort to generate sustainable revenue streams within the country. The government ignores the potential of empowering industries, industries that could not only provide jobs but also create revenue for the nation. Yet, the government’s so-called development projects are only exacerbating the problem, driving up imports and pushing the country further into destruction.

As an Islamic nation, the need to produce a skilled youth workforce should be a top priority. Our future depends on it. By developing and equipping our youth with the skills to work with international markets, we could create new streams of revenue and set the foundation for a stronger economy. But what do we see instead? The youth are being distracted by a culture of entertainment and partying. They are losing focus on their career goals, lured by platforms designed to waste their time rather than enrich their minds. 

Where are the visionary leaders who should be guiding the nation towards a brighter future? Sadly, they are absent. The officials and leaders are more concerned with filling their own pockets than creating opportunities for the people. This lack of leadership and direction is costing us our future.

If we want to salvage the youth of Pakistan, we must take immediate action. It is no secret that today’s generation is addicted to scrolling through endless videos, wasting hours on mindless entertainment. Platforms like TikTok have become the most dangerous diversion, fostering a culture of swiping up and watching senseless videos for hours on end. Even worse, these platforms have become breeding grounds for inapproprite content, with no parental controls or ethical boundaries in place.

In a shocking revelation, TikTok’s own internal investigation revealed that minors, some as young as 15, have been exploited on the app. These teenagers were caught engaging in inappropriate behavior during live streams in exchange for digital gifts – gifts that can be converted into real money. This disturbing trend was highlighted in a report by Forbes and further exposed by NPR and Kentucky Public Radio. Despite knowing the risks their app posed to teenagers, TikTok executives showed a shocking lack of concern.

For countries like Pakistan, allowing such platforms to operate is nothing short of reckless. These apps are not only diverting our youth from meaningful goals but are actively harming them. The government must take a firm stand and ban these platforms. If we are to create a skilled and focused youth, we cannot allow distractions like TikTok to continue corrupting their minds.

It’s time for Pakistan’s government to wake up and act. If we want to save our future, we must start by banning these dangerous platforms and focusing on developing the skills and careers of our youth. The clock is ticking, and Pakistan can no longer afford to waste time.
